Coach Patty Invited to Inaugural Women's Coaching Development Seminar

Updated: Nov 1, 2023

Hosted by the NBA, the seminar's key focus is to enhance opportunities for rising coaches who are interested in learning from and connecting with NBA, G League and WNBA coaches and executives.

This event, which was limited to 20+ women participants, is a three-day seminar that is hosted during the 2023 Summer League in Las Vegas. The event highlights include networking sessions, attending NBA practices, Summer League games and professional development sessions.

"Being a part of this inaugural program is an amazing opportunity but being one of the few Latinas in this program is an even greater honor," Medina said of the seminar, "All we (Latinas) need is an opportunity to show that we belong in these spaces and initiatives, such as this one, by the NBA, WNBA and G League are crucial for our advancement."

Recently, Lou Lopez Sénéchal of UConn women's basketball team became the first player born in Mexico to be drafted by the WNBA when she was selected by the Dallas Wings with the fifth overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft. During the 2021 NBA Playoffs, Blanca Burns made headlines as the first NBA referee to have been born in Mexico. Now, a former coach and current collegiate Associate Athletic Director, Medina hopes to one day break another ceiling for Mexican women, and become the first Mexico-Born General Manager to lead a WNBA, NBA or G League team. Medina, like Burns, believes her ultimate legacy lies in being a trailblazer who can inspire, and hopefully, bring more Mexican and Latin American women into the league.
